Ram trucks are known for being powerful, capable, and surprisingly luxurious. The new Ram 1500 REV will be no exception, but it faces some serious competition.
The New Electric Truck Faces Serious Competition
Drivers looking into Ram trucks have plenty of options. Soon, the automaker will add the Ram 1500 REV to that list. The 2025 Ram 1500 REV will be released to the world at the end of 2024. Let’s explore what to expect.
Class-Leading Range
The new AWD Ram 1500 REV will offer two battery packs. The entry-level model will feature a 168-kWh battery paired with electric motors good for 654 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. Though Ram has yet to release specifics on the 229-kWh models, they should offer a greater range.
These impressive electric Ram trucks have a targeted range of 500 miles for the larger battery. If Ram even comes close, it will blow the other EV trucks currently on the market out of the water.
The Ford F-150 Lightning features either a 98 kWh or 131 kWh battery. Even its extended-range 131 kWh power pack only offers 320 miles of range. The Chevrolet Silverado EV features a 200+ kWh battery pack but still has less range than the larger Ram trucks.
Impressive Towing and Hauling Capabilities
The 2025 Ram 1500 REV will also offer a greater max payload capacity, allowing drivers to haul more weight. Its targeted max payload of 2,700 lbs blows the F-150 Lightning’s 2,000-lb limit out of the water. The Chevrolet Silverado EV will fare even worse at a targeted 1,200 lbs.
When it comes to towing capacity, the situation is slightly more complicated. The new EV Ram trucks have a targeted max towing capacity of 14,000 lbs. The F-150 Lightning weighs in at 7,700 to 10,000 lbs, so it’s not even in the running.
The Chevy Silverado EV WT will only be able to tow up to 8,000 lbs. However, the automaker plans to release models with a Max Tow package that can haul up to 20,000 lbs. The trade-off will almost certainly be a significantly diminished range.
Interior Luxury Comparable to Other Ram Trucks
The gas-powered Ram 1500 has been outperforming its rivals in terms of comfort and luxury for years, and no one expects the upcoming electrification to change that. Removing the bulky powertrain components should give Ram the opportunity to incorporate additional storage.
The Ram 1500 REV concept truck features things like adjustable seating and storage that allow drivers to fit items up to 18 feet long by utilizing the full length of the truck. Its powered side steps, rear tailgate, and frunk make access easy.
The concept truck initially released also shows advanced tech and infotainment features. If it’s any indication of what to expect, we may see voice assistance, head-up displays, and Smart Home Control make their way to the production models.
Of course, all Ram trucks have wireless charging and smartphone connectivity. Drivers can expect those and the current large infotainment touchscreens to carry over. For now, though, the details remain up in the air, so keep an eye out for updates as the release date approaches.
