The base price for a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is $45,300 for the regular cab layout. The double cab starts at $48,995, and the Crew Cab goes for $50,795. The regular cab only comes with a long bed, but the other cab layouts offer a choice between a standard or a long bed. 2WD is also standard, but 4WD is optional for $2,800 on most trims. The ZR2 comes with RWD only, as does the luxurious High Country trim.
In terms of style, the Silverado 2500 HD is very different from the Chevy Colorado. It more resembles the regular Silverado but with more heft. LED lights are standard with the LTZ trim, along with 18-inch wheels. Move up to the Trail Boss, and you’ll get 20-inch gloss black wheels.

The gas engine delivers between 12,000 to 16,000 pounds of towing capacity, but the Duramax is capable of towing up to 20,000 with the Max Trailering package.

There’s no doubt that the Silverado 2500 HD is a big truck. It features a high driving position and a high hood that can make it difficult to see people in front of it. The good news is that the Safety package includes a surround-view camera that helps you see around the truck. The Silverado’s hood also has slab sides that make it a bit easier than other trucks to see where the edges are.
Intuitve Dashboard Layout
Inside, the Silverado 2500 HD keeps things simple with a lot of physical control. There are buttons on the steering wheel and settings for 4WD and Auto mode with an automatic locking rear differential. The physical controls are a welcome departure from touchscreen-laden cabins. However, the Silverado 2500 HD does include a big 13.4-inch touchscreen where you can run wireless Android or Apple as well as Google Built-In. But the touchscreen has its place and doesn’t interfere with chunky physical buttons that gloved hands can use.
Practical and Functional Interior
The Silverado 2500 HD is not a gimmicky truck. It’s very straightforward from its engines to its rather stiff ride. The cabin is incredibly roomy, but everything feels rugged and durable like it will hold up to plenty of use. With the LTZ Convenience Package, you’ll get niceties like heated and ventilated bucket seats. There are also plenty of cubbies and storage bins throughout the cabin. Oversized grab handles make it easier to get in and out of the tall cabin.
Options and Extras Boost the Price
The starting price of Chevy’s HD truck seems very reasonable on the surface, and it’s a good way to get a tough work truck for not a lot of money. However, if you’re plotting to build it out with options and extras, the price can soar fast. Just opting for the Crew Cab LTZ with 4WD and the Duramax engine puts it over $70,000.
