Anyone who has a family member with Autism knows the whole family is on the spectrum. Chrysler unveiled its new Calm Cabin to aid these families.
April is Autism Acceptance Month, and both Chrysler and the Autism Society of America have formed a partnership to celebrate this event. At the heart of this celebration is a new Calm Cabin package for the Chrysler Pacifica minivan. This package is filled with items that should help passengers with Autism to travel in peace and tranquility, making it much easier for the entire family to travel wherever they need to go.
Vehicles can create terrible environments for people with Autism
Chrysler brought this new cabin package to the New York Auto Show to offer a look at what it means to help create the right environment for people on the spectrum. Vehicles can be stressful, scary places and create an overstimulating environment that can be extremely uncomfortable for the entire family. The goal of this new cabin package is to create a calming experience where passengers can feel much more relaxed when they climb aboard. It’s important to offer solutions to ensure families can enjoy road trips and weekend adventures together.
What does this package include?
The new Chrysler Calm Cabin package includes various items that can make it much easier for families to hit the road. These items include a weighted blanket, a soft-touch pillow, and a soft seat belt sleeve. One of the most challenging aspects of Autism is an extreme sensitivity to sensory items. Some people can’t even have shirts with tags because it creates a sensory challenge for them. These soft items and the weighted blanket help create a cozy, comfortable, and relaxing place to ride on the way to the next family destination.
In addition, this interior package has a seat-back organizer along with a meditative light and sound therapy machine. The machine is rechargeable and has four therapy modes and 15 sound modes to help soothe and calm the user. Of course, this package isn’t limited to families with Autism but could be useful for small children when they need a calming environment while out on the road.
Why should Chrysler focus on Autism?
In reality, all automakers should offer something to help families with members facing Autism. The Centers for Disease Control says Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States. Currently, one in every 36 children has some form of Autism, and 5.8 million adults in the United States live with this disability and have to learn to cope with it every day.
In addition to the Chrysler Calm Cabin package, Chrysler is looking for ways to build more Autism awareness. Dealers will receive training to understand some of the unique needs of Autistic people and their families. Chrysler is also encouraging people to donate to the Autism Society of America and provides the organization with three Pacifica minivans for one year.
What makes the Chrysler Pacifica a great option for families?
The Pacifica is a comfortable, stylish, and practical minivan that brings appealing features to busy families to enjoy the drive. This van delivers the roominess desired and includes an available AWD system, the Stow ‘n Go seating, and several other great features. The purpose of a minivan is to make life easier for families, and this Chrysler minivan does a great job of doing just that. This van is great for families that want to enjoy some adventures together or simply need a great van to get to and from their daily destinations.
What powers this Chrysler minivan?
Every model of the Chrysler Pacifica uses a 3.6-liter V6 engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid model offers up to 32 miles of all-electric driving, but this version deletes the Stow ‘n Go seating in the second row. The gas-only model brings 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque to your drive. You’ll enjoy 19 city/28 hwy mpg in FWD models and 17 city/25 hwy mpg when you add AWD to the mix.
