Top 3 Luxury SUVs You Can Afford

Luxury SUVs are one of the most coveted niches in the auto industry. SUVs are already incredibly popular, but luxury SUVs give you all the best features of an SUV combined with the posh luxury of what used to be the territory of large luxury sedans. But, they cost a fortune, right? Actually, not necessarily. Let’s take a look at three top luxury SUVs that start at prices under $45,000.

Buick Enclave

The new Buick Enclave starts at $43,000, but that price will definitely go up when you consider higher trims or add a lot of options. However, all models of the Enclave are quiet and comfortable, and they all feature a spacious interior with three rows of seats. The Buick Enclave represents a nice balance between higher-priced luxury midsize SUVs and the more mainstream midsize SUV class.

The Buick Enclave comes with a standard V6 engine on all trims, and it’s paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This is an easy-driving SUV that features sharp steering, smooth braking, and a pleasant ride. FWD is standard on most trims of the Enclave, but AWD is nice to have if you live in a climate that gets a lot of snow.

Volvco XC40

Starting at around $37,000, the Volvo XC40 offers Scandinavian luxury in a small SUV. Despite its small size, the XC40 has a surprising amount of room inside. This is a subcompact luxury SUV that is a good choice for those who want an affordable luxury SUV mostly for commuting or daily driving purposes.

The XC40 also offers buyers comparable fuel economy to a sedan at 30 MPG on the highway, and it’s highly maneuverable for tight urban parking lots and city streets. The elevated ride height and additional cargo room represent distinctly SUV features that some buyers would rather have versus a midsize car.

Mercedes-Benz GLB

The Mercedes-Benz GLB starts at around $41,000 and represents a midlevel choice between the three SUVs listed here. Unlike the Buick Enclave, a third-row seat is only optional, but it is larger than the Volvo XC40. The GLB features energetic performance, especially when equipped with the 2.0-liter turbo engine on the 250 4MATIC trim. This trim still comes in under $45,000 and includes standard AWD.

The GLB is still considered a subcompact SUV, but the additional seat option means that it has a lot more room than the average subcompact. Inside, you can expect distinctive Mercedes-Benz luxury, but the one knock against it is its rather staid exterior.

Most luxury SUVs under or around the $45,000 price point are on the smaller end of the segment. This is where the Buick Enclave stands out by providing competitive luxury in a larger SUV, while still staying below $45,000 if you stick with the base trim.
