What are the most unreliable car brands? How did they get to be at the bottom of the list? Let’s dig in and see what’s the problems are.
You’re going to be surprised to find some of the brands you know and love in the bottom part of the automotive world when it comes to reliability. Sometimes it only takes one vehicle to bring an entire brand down, while other brands have been prowling the bottom of this list for years and continue to remain cellar-dwellers with vehicles that you probably should avoid driving.
Does the Cadillac Brand Belong in the Bottom?
You might think of the impressive luxury build, high-quality features, and amazing technology offered by the Cadillac brand and know that this is a brand that is one you normally trust and admire. Unfortunately, an over-reliance on the GM parts bin has cost this brand some of the build quality that we have come to expect in recent years. This may be a bit of an old problem, but as Cadillac adds unique models to the mix, there might not be a problem facing this brand in the future. That being said, this is the first time that Cadillac has been in the bottom ten for reliability.
Are You Surprised to See Ford on this List?
One of the most unreliable car brands for many years has been Ford. Even though Ford produces a ton of pickup trucks, the small SUVs make it challenging for this brand to be considered anything but unreliable. The EcoSport is as close to a car as we get these days, and it comes with similar troubles as the sedans and hatchbacks that used to come from this brand. The EcoSport is now single-handedly responsible for Ford being in the bottom part of this list.
We’ve Seen Mini as an Unreliable Brand Before
You might think that being part of the BMW family would turn things around for Mini, but the brand that brings us the iconic and fun-loving Cooper is also the brand that brings back the troubles with British automating, unreliability. This brand is starting to move up the charts and might eventually be out of the bottom ten in the market, but for now, this is where they belong. When driving a model from this rand, you might find your vehicle has electrical issues or engine failures, neither of which is something you want to be faced with during your drive.
Volkswagen Needs to Do Something to Change Their Status
Currently, the Volkswagen name is close to mud as the sixth most unreliable car brand in the market. There are many models from this brand now being made in China, which doesn’t emphasize reliability and quality in the building of vehicles. There should be serious improvements from a company that’s rebuilding its reputation on a lineup of electric vehicles, but we might see this name at the very bottom of the list before we see it move up to where we can admire it again.
It Shouldn’t Surprise You to See Tesla in this List
There are stories of how many complaints Tesla was receiving regarding the Model X. These stories include Elon Musk sleeping in his office just to field calls and work to find solutions to the problems with the crossover SUV that should have been a luxury darling but ended up being an ugly duckling. The risks that were taken by Tesla landed it in the bottom five when it comes to reliability, but if they ever figure out how to move through their own technology, they could find their way to a much better position in this list.
Lincoln Continues to be a Troublesome Brand
With incredible style, comfort, and technology, we would love to get behind the Lincoln brand and tell you that it’s a great brand for you to drive. Unfortunately, the low sales volume and all of the challenges of Ford make Lincoln one of the most unreliable car brands you can find. This premium brand is frustrating, and you might not like the fact that you have to either live with some of the systems not working or have your vehicle at the repair shop often.
Fiat is in the Third Spot on this List
The top three of this list is a place that car brands don’t want to be. It should come as no surprise that one of these is an FCA brand. The Fiat brand has been mired with troubles, some of which stem from the fact that they offer so few vehicles in the US market these days. In fact, the only vehicle that comes from this brand that you should drive is the Fiat 124 Spider, which is a fun and active sports car. The Fiat 500, on the other hand, should be left at the dealership.
Alfa Romeo is Another FCA Brand in the Bottom of the Barrel
What’s wrong with Alfa Romeo? This brand has a few models that you can enjoy driving with amazing style and sportiness, but they aren’t known for being a reliable brand. In fact, Alfa Romeo is the second most unreliable of the car brands you’ll find. Only 13 percent of the Giulia models sold won’t require repairs during the first three years, which is a terrible statistic. Some of the problems reported include fuel system issues, A/C unit problems, power equipment failures, and electronics that don’t work.
Land Rover Range Rover is the Most Unreliable Car Brand
This name at the bottom of the list might surprise you, but Land Rover Range Rover is the brand that you should avoid the most when looking for a reliable vehicle to drive. The Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery are the vehicles bringing down this brand name. Some of the reported problems include leaking head gaskets, throttle body coolant leaks, oil leaks, and an air suspension that fails. Sometimes too many cool features can be the problem for a vehicle, which might explain the troubles with the air suspension.
