When you hear about a brand offering the drive and qualities desired for the ride on the road, you often hear a lot about the engine under the hood. In reality, unless you’re going to the track to show off the performance you’ve found, you don’t need to know about the power and transmission offered for the vehicle. That’s what brings us to our topic of today. We love the performance cars of the Nissan brand and know they can give us a lot of fun on the road, but it seems one of the engines will make its way to a new location.
SCG is an American automaker that is a boutique company offering us only a few models for the drive. Originally, this automaker was going to build the new SCG004S with a 5.0-liter V8 engine under the hood, likely sourced from Ford, but now they have made a change to bring a different engine for the driving experience we’re going to admire when its offered for sale. This new engine will be where we see Nissan show up in SCG, making this new model one that’s an international collaboration.
Which Nissan Engine is Being Used?
If you guessed the engine that was chosen for the new SCG004S was the same one that powers the GT-R, you’d be correct. The team at SCG chose the twin-turbocharged V6 engine from this car because of the lighter weight and build that makes it nearly indestructible. This engine will offer nearly 690 horsepower in the SCG004S in the entry-level form and it will certainly also have a tuned up and higher-powered offering that we’re not sure of the numbers yet. This engine will make use of a standard six-speed manual transmission, but a paddle-shift automatic will also be offered.
The race variants of the SCG004S will carry this engine and will be lined up to compete at the Nurburgring 24 Hours race next year. When the car makes its way to this race next year, a road version will be present as well. This car will drive the track, get a race engine, compete, and then drive home, making it an interesting event for the road car that will transform into a race car during this annual race at the most famous track in the world to give us something entertaining to see.
SCG expects to produce around 250 models of the SCG004S each year starting in 2020. The prototypes should begin testing soon and production models will begin to be delivered to customers who have put forth the deposit before the end of the year. So far, the full allocation of the cars for this year have been reserved, which means if you want to purchase this car or one of the other SCG models, you’re going to want to get in early for the production run that takes place next year. This is an intriguing car that will carry the Nissan GT-R engine around the tracks of the world.
