Recently, we saw TRD models of the Toyota Camry and Avalon on the track as the NASCAR team from Toyota had some fun behind the wheel.
These two sedans, which have been meant for family driving in the past, were equipped with actual performance features that made the drive better and more fun on the track. These qualities are being offered for your drive on the roads as well, and it seems that Toyota isn’t done adding more items to the lineup of vehicles that we drive every day.
Toyota is Changing Our Mindset
Typically, when you think of a Toyota model, you think of practical, family-oriented, reliable vehicles that hold their value extremely well. This brand has built a reputation for having some of the most reliable models on the market by taking things slower, testing items completely, and sticking with what works. Now, the Toyota brand is looking to change our minds and give us more of the fun we want on the road. The plan is to add AWD and TRD qualities to the entire lineup and give us the right way to have some fun.
Will it be Just a Pretty Face?
Too often, we’ve seen some of our volume brands on the market tell us they are adding sporty qualities to a vehicle and when we take a look the sportiness is missing. Sure, these other brands have added side skirts, a spoiler, sport seats, and maybe a flat-bottom steering wheel, but they forgot to add sportiness to the performance, which is where it counts. Toyota plans to add more track-tuned performance features across the lineup with items that will add upgraded fun for you on the road and not just a pretty face for your vehicle.
What Will We See?
There’s a good chance that we will see a variety of excellent TRD models in the near future. This means you could see a Prius, C-HR, Corolla, RAV4, or Highlander with the TRD badge on the back. The Toyota Racing Development team has been given the green light to put these cars to the test, upgrade them with more features, and make them more fun. Right now, we’ve heard there’s a new Corolla TRD in the works which would eventually join the Camry and Avalon TRD models that were shown off recently.
More AWD Means More Options from Toyota
In addition to adding upgraded models to the lineup to give us more performance with TRD models from Toyota, a sweeping addition of AWD is planned for the lineup as well. This would make a huge difference in the market where Subaru has dominated the AWD scene for many years. Adding AWD would give us more capable choices and make it easy to have the right equipment in the vehicles that we already trust more than any other brand. Look forward to a new personality from the Toyota brand to add to the reliability we already know and trust.
