The Off-Road Packages of Chevrolet

The Off-Road Packages of Chevrolet

Normally, we think of Chevrolet as the brand with tough, rugged, affordable vehicles, but you can also enjoy an amazing off-road package.

The toughness of working in the fields, pulling heavy loads into rough areas, and letting loose on the weekend are at the core of this brand. That means you’ve got to have a package of items that can take you away from the paved roads and into the areas where the dirt is loose, the mud is deep, and the terrain is filled with obstacles. To handle these situations, you need an excellent package of off-road features.

The Most Dynamic Off-Roader

Among the models that wear the bowtie, the Colorado is the vehicle that comes with the most off-road items and variations. In years past, you could choose the Z71 package or the ZR2 model and have plenty of amazing features for riding on the trails. For the 2022 model year, you can also enjoy a Trailboss package and the Bison variation of this truck to give you more of the items that will give you the capability needed to tame the wilderness.

The Trailboss package gives you added items to 4WD versions of the LT and Z71 trims. This package adds skid plates, a front one-inch leveling kit, and a rugged appearance package to give you some of the items that will make you smile.

Going with the Z71

If you choose the Chevrolet Colorado Z71, you’ll have an off-road suspension, an automatic locking rear differential, all-terrain tires, and hill-descent control to give you the items that will help your wheels chew up the wilderness during your drive. As expected, this model also comes with standard 4WD to give you power to all the wheels.

More is Found in the ZR2

Since it arrived on the scene, the Colorado ZR2 has been the off-road variant of this truck that you want for your adventures in the wilderness. This trim gives you red recovery hooks, a taller and wider stance than other models, standard 4WD, DDSV Multimatic suspension dampers, fender flares, and a rugged appearance package.

Look at the Bison Edition

The Bison Edition of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 takes things to a higher level of off-roading for you. You’ll have AEV items, including extra skid plates, a rugged appearance package, AEV front and rear bumpers, and the option for a front winch.

A Classic You Know and Love

The Silverado 1500 is as American as apple pie, and it’s certainly ubiquitous with the moniker of being the Heartbeat of America. If you take this half-ton truck and give it the off-road qualities you want, you’ll be adding the Z71 package to the mix. Looking across the trims of the Silverado, you do see the Trailboss models that add a lift to the mix, but the Z71 package is where you find the gear you’re looking for.

This package gives you a Chevrolet truck that has an off-road suspension with Rancho shocks, all-terrain tires, an automatic locking rear differential, a two-speed transfer case, underbody skid plates, and hill descent control. Of course, if you want the lift of the Trailboss you can combine the Z71 package with this version and enjoy a truck that can do nearly everything.

A Little Something More for the Silverado 1500

For the 2022 version of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you can have a ZR2 version. Unlike what normally happens, this package was brought upward from the Colorado to the Silverado to give you an excellent option for the off-road stuff you desire.

The new Silverado ZR2 combines all the goodies of some of the other trims to give you one amazing off-road package. You’ll have Multimatic DSSV dampers, a unique off-road suspension, a two-inch lift kit, 4WD, front and rear locking differentials, electronically selectable terrain modes, and the most powerful engine from the Silverado, which is the 6.2-liter V8 engine.

This truck also brings you higher bumpers, 33-inch mud tires, integrated steel skid plates, fender flairs, and a higher exhaust system. Everything about this truck tells you it’s made to handle the time out on the trails, where you’re going to find the most fun.

What if You Want an SUV?

We’ve talked about two of the Chevrolet trucks that can head out into the wilderness, and logic tells us the heavy-duty trucks can also be fitted with off-road items to take on the trails, which is true, but what about the SUVs? If you want to drive an SUV with off-road items, the Suburban and Tahoe are both offered with the Z71 package. This package gives you similar equipment to what you find in the trucks that have the same trim name. If you’re looking for a way to take your family out into the wilderness, or you want to enjoy a good time on the trails, this is the right version of each of these SUVs for you.

The Z71 trim for the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe gives you unique styling for off-road driving, a higher stance, tow hooks that protrude from the front bumpers, standard 4WD, large skid plates, a two-speed transfer case, hill-descent control, 20-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, four-corner air suspension, three different off-road driving modes, active dampers, and both V8 engines. The only drawback of the Z71 trim is that you cannot choose this trim and the diesel engine when you pick your SUV, but that might not be a problem when you’re shopping.

Find Your Off-Road Adventures at Chevrolet

Across the lineup of trucks and full-size SUVs, the Chevy brand is filled with models that can give you the drive and the confidence you want to head out on the trails. Will you drive the new Silverado ZR2, the Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition, or will you drive a Z71 model of any of the vehicles we’ve mentioned? You’re sure to admire and enjoy the qualities offered in the various Chevy vehicles that can give you the capability to head out on the trails and have fun in the wilderness or get more work done.
