The following and popularity of the M badged vehicles from BMW hasn’t gone unnoticed by the brand that gives us pure performance.
Not only has BMW enjoyed a greater following and sales of the higher powered and more exciting cars in its lineup that wear this badge, but other brands are showing up with their own versions of hot sedans, sporty coupes, and cars that will absolutely allow you to have the power and performance that will easily excite you. With that in mind, the BMW team is looking to expand its lineup of M models to include more of what we want.
The Files for More M Names are In
Recently, the US Patent and Trademark Office receives filings to reserve the M335, M650, and M750 names for future use. These three names are likely a signal to let us know that we’ll have performance-oriented models of the 6 Series and the 7 Series to offer more of what we want. With the debut of the M850i xDrive at Le Mans, you can see how exciting the M cars are from the BMW name. The new M850i is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 523 horsepower for the fun on the track.
Another M model that will be offered in the near future may be the M7 which was also filed as a reserve for the name. The M760i was launched in2017 and may continue and be offered in 2019 with a new moniker for the driving enjoyment. This car that showed up for the 2017 model year featured a massive 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that produced 600 horsepower for the drive. It seems the M brand will bring a lot to the market in the near future, giving us even more of what we want from the brand that produces the ultimate in driving pleasure.
What About the BMW M335?
There is a new 3 Series model that’s about to be offered in the market from BMW and this means a new M3 to be added as well. Having the M335 as part of the mix would give us an exciting car to drive that would slot just below the M3 in the lineup. This new M335 is expected to be offered alongside the new 3 Series to ensure we have a fantastic car to drive. The rumor mill tells us the new 3 Series will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in the fall.
It’s pretty easy to see from the filings with the Patent office that more M badges are on their way as the BMW brand looks to create more excitement and follow a similar path to what Mercedes-Benz has already done with the AMG names. Rather than offer only one M name per model, BMW can expand the lineup and tune up a variety of engines and suspensions to add the Mbadge to more models and create a menu of models that make it easy to choose a vehicle that can feel exciting and personalized.
