Finding an affordable hybrid can be challenging, even when looking at used auto sales. This Japanese model offers an alternative to its better-known competitors. Enter the Honda Insight. Though it’s no longer being manufactured, this gas-electric hybrid sedan is quite affordable and should be a good buy if you can find one at a used car dealership.

What’s So Great About the Honda Insight?
The Honda Insight may be defunct, but it has not been forgotten. The Honda sedan didn’t sell well during its four years on the market, but it performed exceptionally during that time and since its recent discontinuation.
The Insight is a reliable vehicle. While it has undergone a handful of recalls for accessory components, the powertrains and drivetrains in the Insight are known to last for a long time. Given that the Insight is no longer being manufactured, that’s a big check in the plus category.
The Honda Insight isn’t just reliable. It’s also fuel efficient, comfortable, and packed with comprehensive safety tech.
Outstanding Fuel Efficiency
The Insight has outstanding fuel efficiency, topping the class with an EPA-estimated 55/49/52 MPG highway/city/combined. You can cover 551 miles on a single 10.6-gal tank of gas and will save close to $1k in fuel each year.
Don’t be fooled by the Insight’s fuel efficiency. This Honda hybrid sedan still has plenty of get-up-and-go thanks to its 151-hp powertrain, which consists of a 1.5L 4-cyl engine and a permanent-magnet synchronous motor paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission.
The Honda Insight can make it from 0 to 60 in 8.1 seconds and tops out at 114 miles per hour. Needless to say, it hasn’t sacrificed power to get further than its competitors on a tank of gas.
A Comfortable Ride That’s Surprisingly Affordable
You can typically find a 2019 Honda Insight selling for around $15k at used auto sales. At the lowest trim level, it doesn’t have much to offer in terms of amenities. Expect manually adjustable seats, one USB port, and a five-inch infotainment center.
Once you start moving up in trim levels, you’ll get larger infotainment centers, improved speaker systems, and upgraded USB ports. The line-topping Touring model adds premium features like dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, and leather upholstery.
Start Checking Used Auto Sales
It will cost you a bit more to purchase a Honda Insight Touring, but if you can find one, it will provide an excellent value for the money. You should start checking used car sales now, though. The Honda Insight wasn’t overly popular while in production, so it’s relatively rare to see them at today’s used car dealerships.
