The most powerful and dependable trucks are no longer only American-made. Imported trucks have taken the industry by storm in recent years. The Toyota Tundra and the Honda Ridgeline combine the power and ruggedness needed in trucks with the dependability customers expect from these car companies.
Price
Both the Ridgeline and the Tundra are affordably priced. The base model for the Ridgeline is slightly higher than the Tundra at $37,640 and $35,950, respectively. However, at the upper end, the Tundra comes with a $61,020 price tag while a fully-loaded Ridgeline is only $45,070.
Depending on what features and how much space you need, the Tundra can end up costing quite a bit more.
Performance
When it comes to performance, there are several things to consider. The Ridgeline only offers a 280-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 Cylinder gas engine. The Tundra has two options, a 348-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 Cylinder gas engine and one more option which increases the horsepower to 389. The Ridgeline comes with a 9-Speed automatic transmission while the Tundra boasts a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Where the real difference in performance is noticeable is in the towing capacity. The Ridgeline can’t compete with the Tundra. The Ridgeline offers 5,000 pounds of towing while the Tundra comes with 8,300-12,000 pounds of towing, depending on the trim.
Space
When comparing space, the Ridgeline is a bit smaller. On the outside, The Ridgeline is 210.2 inches in length while the Tundra is 233.6 to 252.5 inches in length, depending on the trim. The Ridgeline is 78.6 inches wide while the Tundra is 80.2 inches wide.
Inside, the Tundra offers a bit more space, overall. The Ridgeline offers the driver and front passenger 40.9 inches of legroom while rear passengers get 36.7 inches. In the Tundra, the front has 41.2 inches of legroom while the back offers 33.3 to 41.6 inches. The amount of headroom is fairly equal with the Ridgeline offering 39.5 to 40.1 inches in the front and 38.8 inches in the rear and the Tundra allowing 39.3 to 41 inches in the front and 36.9 to 38.9 inches in the back.
Both the Ridgeline and the Tundra come with 5 seats.
Comfort
If space is a concern, passengers will be more comfortable in the Toyota Tundra due to the added interior space and legroom. However, the Honda Ridgeline has a much smaller turning radius, making driving it in cities and crowded areas more pleasurable. If stopping at a gas station is something you want to avoid, the Tundra is the better option with its larger fuel tank and better gas mileage.
If you are looking for a more compact truck with some power and a lower price tag, the Ridgeline is the best option. However, if you need more space and power, the Tundra is the way to go.
