The Education Competition Sponsored by Honda
For the past thirty years, Honda has been hosting, sponsoring, and funding the Honda Campus All-Star Challenges which is the nation’s premier academic competition for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This year-round program begins on April 16 when a new champion will be crowned to give the team that wins the top prize. The top quiz bowl teams from f48 HBCUs will travel to Los Angeles for the HCASC National Championship Tournament on the Honda campus in Torrance, CA. This is an exciting event that will show the leading team in the competition which will rise to the top.
The HCASC Offers a Variety of Benefits
The competitions connect the best and brightest HBCU students and give them an opportunity to expand their scope of knowledge. In addition to this, the students will learn teamwork and sportsmanship while developing a bond with their fellow competitors. These programs allow students to show off their academic talents with the ability to answer questions about history, science, literature, religion, the arts, and pop culture. The gameplay isn’t all the competition supports, all participants also take part I community service activities as well to enhance their leadership, networking, and mentorship opportunities.
Participants Across the Country Compete
The HBCUs that participate in the Honda competition each year come from a variety of states around the country. There are teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D. C. Each team earns a spot in the National Championship Tournament by competing in regional tournaments that are held on HBCU campuses around the country. The award for the competition amounts to $358,000 in institutional grants to the participating schools.
The History of the Competition is Amazing
During the thirty years that the HCASC has been held, a network of more than 125,000 alumni have participated and many remain involved in the competition every year as volunteers. Some serve as mentors to the new generation of competitors and others work as hosts and support teams. The impressive roster of past participants includes engineers, lawyers, doctors, and professors around the country. This competition is able to offer a life-changing experience through travel and networking for those that choose to participate and enjoy what Honda has built and the students have been able to garner for success that leads to bright futures.
