Jeep Enters the Ride-Sharing Business

Jeep Enters the Ride-Sharing Business

When we think of ride-sharing, we often think about rental vehicles that are typically the most basic models of the cars that are offered.

We don’t usually consider performance models that could be part of a ride-sharing program, including those performance models that can make their way out to the off-road areas we want to enjoy for the drive. Even though these are the normal thoughts we have, the fact is, programs are growing and evolving to offer us more of the options we want to enjoy when it’s time to get out on the road or into the wilderness for a drive.

Options in the Boston Market from Jeep

The FCA team plans to launch a trio of pilot programs in the Boston area to help increase the sales of the Jeep models. These programs will involve car-sharing and subscription services that make use of the Jeep vehicles and other FCA brands for the drive we want to enjoy. The first one of these programs is through the peer-to-peer car-sharing startup, Turo, in which each owner can rent out their own Jeep model to be used by someone else for a day or a few hours at a time.

Partnering with Avis

Two programs for ride-sharing will be in partnership with Avis Budget Group to give us the ability to make use of Jeep models in other ways. One of the programs will be a three-month subscription service in which an owner can swap out their Jeep for other models from the FCA brands. This means you could leave your Jeep Compass with the Avis team and drive a Ram 1500 pickup when you need to carry a load of materials home for a weekend project, or you could choose a Dodge Challenger and tear up the roads.

A third program will roll out that will also be in partnership with Avis to give Jeep owners the ability to purchase six “Jeep Coins” per year. Each of these coins will be good for a one-day rental of many of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles. The coins will be good for a year and those who are involved in this program will be able to either pick up the borrowed vehicles or have them delivered to their homes to be available as an additional model for driving during that day.

A Positive for All from Jeep

These three programs will be a huge win for everyone involved. The Avis programs will be limited to the first 100 owners who register for each program and the inventory of models will be supplied by Avis at dealerships. The Turo program makes perfect sense because Jeep is one of the most requested models by customers of Turo. If this program is successful in the Boston area, you can expect to see these three programs offered in other markets in the near future to give Jeep owners a great way to get the most out of their Jeep.
