After all these years, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is still one of the most capable and versatile SUVs on the road today. The only thing that this SUV was missing was an updated and modern model. Those days are over because the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is being released from its cocoon as an incredible butterfly that will leave its competition in the dust.
Rumor Has It: Under The Hood
While Jeep could go with any number of possible engines, all signs point to the new Grand Cherokee coming with a choice of a turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V6, or a 5.7-liter V8 engine.
What’s most exciting is that we fully anticipate a hybrid powertrain to be ready upon release. There will also be a plug-in hybrid and diesel option coming later next year.
Drivers who love the off-road-ready Trailhawk and high-performance Trackhawk models will be ecstatic with Jeep’s continued options.
Interior Guesses Are Looking Good
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is going to have a slightly longer wheelbase, which means the already spacious interior will be expanded. That means Jeep may even decide to make a third-row optional for those who need the extra seats.
In the current version of this Jeep SUV, you’ll find a standard five-inch touchscreen infotainment center that can be upgraded to an 8.4-inch version with additional features. It looks like Jeep is playing with adding a larger edition of this intuitive feature. Expect a ten or twelve-inch version. Of course, the infotainment system will sport things like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
As Safe As Ever
While the newest model of the Grand Cherokee hasn’t completed all of its crash testings, expectations are high. Previous models aced these tests as Jeep is known for making solid and safe vehicles.
You can expect to see more standard and available driver-assist features. Things like automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection should be available on every trim level. Higher trims will add lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Some Things Never Change
With all of the highly-anticipated changes coming to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, there are a few things that won’t see many updates. The biggest is the Jeep warranty. While Jeep offers a generous warranty, it tends to remain fairly average:
- 3-year.36,000-mile limited warranty
- 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty
- 2-year complimentary maintenance for certain models
Luckily, Jeep builds some of the most reliable and durable vehicles around, so you can still shop with confidence.
